Using the science of sight reading to improve beginner music reading

Take beginner piano music reading to the next level! By adapting strategies used by expert sight readers, beginner sight reading skills can be nurtured in a fun and creative ways.

Sight reading is a valuable skill for pianists which can be taught and nurtured from the first year of piano lessons. Research in eye movements, eye-hand span and structural perception reveal the ways experts sight read music with a high level of proficiency. These expert abilities can be adapted for use with young beginner piano students. By utilizing these adapted approaches, beginners will be able to develop reliable reading skills and over time, proficient sight reading skills. Dependable music reading ability has been noted to improve overall satisfaction with piano lessons and leads to a longer length of study.
