The Hugheen Ferguson Distinguished Teacher Award was created in memory of the late Hugheen Ferguson, CFMTA president from 1997 – 1999. She was an extraordinary teacher, administrator and supporter of the Association and the arts throughout her lifetime.
Recipients of this distinguished award are nominated by their CFMTA member peers, in recognition of their contributions in the field of music education and their service to the arts community.
The following guidelines for nominations are recommended:
- The nominee has made a significant impact in their community
- The nominee has demonstrated exemplary service to CFMTA or their provincial RMTA
- The nominee has had an exemplary teaching career
Recipients will be recognized at the biennial CFMTA National Convention, receive a complimentary ticket to the Convention Gala, a certificate of recognition, and be recognized in the Canada Music Week Edition of the Canadian Music Teacher.
The nominating Provincial/Territorial Association is encouraged to contribute to the ongoing fund so that this award may continue honouring Hugheen Ferguson and the many recipients. As such, the association may send a donation at the discretion of the nominating province or territory along with the completed application form.
In the event that the recipient is unable to attend the national conference, the certificate will be sent to the distinguished teacher's provincial association.
